The relatives of the crew members of the Argentinean submarine ARA San Juan will request an impartial process in the trial of those involved in a case of alleged espionage, including former president Mauricio Macri (2015-2019).
The submarine departed from the city of Ushuaia, in the south of the country, on a training exercise, after which the Navy lost contact with it on November 15th, 2017.
A search and rescue operation was launched involving the use of advanced technology and the participation of 15 countries, after which the company Ocean Infinity was hired, and it finally found the remains a year later.
The relatives of the 44 officers who died in the event are facing Macri in court for alleged espionage against them, while they waited for news on their loved ones.
According to one of the lawyers representing them, Valeria Carreras, a hearing will take place via videoconference, in which she will demand the separation of the case from Judge Julián Ercolini, who was in charge of the process in February, when it was referred to the Court of Comodoro Py, a well-known and favorable terrain for the former president.
According to judge Martín Bava, Mauricio Macri ordered and made possible conducting intelligence tasks that are expressly prohibited by law, including obtaining and archiving information from citizens selected for their political opinion or their membership in party, social, trade union, community and human rights organizations.
