Government of Ecuador will present a citizen security plan

President Guillermo Lasso met with the leadership of the National Police and the Ministers of the Government, Francisco Jiménez, and of the Interior, Patricio Carrillo.

The authorities were summoned to deal with citizen security issues.

In this meeting they focused on a comprehensive security plan, which will be presented this Friday, April 8, in Guayaquil.

Without specifying the actions contemplated in the plan, he announced that they will be urgent measures to combat the high rates of insecurity and violent deaths.

“We will carry out actions in cities where insecurity is more complex,” said Carrillo. He also reported that on Friday they will travel with the President to demonstrate the various actions that make up this strategy.

He said that the plan includes coordination with the Decentralized Autonomous Governments (GAD), the Prosecutor’s Office and the armed forces. He also stressed that they are going to fight internal corruption in the institution.

Faced with a surprising violent attack on the building of the National Service for Comprehensive Attention to Persons Deprived of Liberty SNAI, Carrillo said it was a reaction to the fight against organized crime.

“The moment in which the President decided to change the dynamic regarding how we were reacting to the events in the prisons, we anticipated that there could be reactions and this forces us to take measures,” added the minister, specifying that it is most likely that These kinds of things keep happening.

Wednesday’s attack left a prison guide wounded by a bullet to the head. Carrillo confirmed that the attack was against a person who was about to fulfill his pre-release obligation.

This penitentiary benefit is what the government seeks to limit so that inmates who have participated in the massacres in prisons or riots cannot apply for pre-release.

“We will present the necessary reforms. The Government thinks of some (popular) consultation and one of the questions would go in that direction », he added.
