The people who suffer from these diseases made a clear call to the National Government to guarantee the care and health of each of the patients. This is due to the lack of payment for the care of cancer patients derived from the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) to Solca.
The director of the Youth Against Cancer Foundation, Gustavo Dávila, along with several patients at risk of losing their care, expressed concern about the Executive’s lack of sensitivity to the non-compliance with IESS payments to Solca and explained that the debt of the social security is USD 100 million with the different venues; while the total debt of other institutions such as the ISFFA or the Ministry of Health, adds up to USD 160 million.
Dávila claimed that the offers of the National Government, through Vice President Alfredo Borrero, the president of the IESS board of directors, Francisco Cepeda, the Ministry of Health and the National Assembly, have not been fulfilled and have remained only promises.
He also showed that the meetings with these institutions have not been successful.
“Patients do not have to pay for the inefficiency and lack of State management,” he emphasized.
Evelyn Sanango, a cancer patient who maintains her treatment at the IESS, emphasized that cancer patients are afraid of losing their care due to lack of resources and claimed that President Guillermo Lasso has not listened to this sector and demanded a meeting with the first leader.
“It’s not fair, Mr. President, please give us an appointment. We are begged. You are going to complete a year in the Government and until now you have not done anything. For you our lives are useless », she emphasized.
After the pronouncement of other people, who suffer from these diseases, the director of Youth Against Cancer asked the Government to hold a meeting between the head of state and the patients, so that their needs are heard.
In addition, they did not rule out mobilizations or sit-ins, rejecting the lack of resources and attention to continue with their treatments.
