Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that his country considers that the events in the Ukrainian city of Bucha are a provocation that directly threatens international peace and security.
During talks in this capital with United Nations Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths, the Russian Foreign minister noted that he will demand that the United Kingdom, which holds the Security Council’s presidency, call an urgent meeting on this issue.
Russia’s senior official described the disclosed images, according to which the Russian military allegedly killed Ukrainian civilians in Bucha, as “an attack of fakes”.
According to Lavrov, ther was a staging in Bucha that Ukraine and “its Western sponsors” disclosed through all the possible channels and social networks.
On Monday, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitri Peskov expressed the Kremlin’s “categorical” rejection of this accusation. “Also, we consider that this topic must be discussed at the highest possible level,” he pointed out.
On Saturday night, images of bodies lying on Bucha’s streets, some with their hands tied, were disclosed. Regarding this, the advisor to the Ukrainian President’s Office, Mikhail Podoliak, stated that the civilians “were unarmed”, “they did not represent any threat” and “were shot dead by Russian soldiers.”
On Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Defense considered the images as a provocation and denounced them as a staging created for Western media.
