The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its strong condemnation to the intention by the US administration to exclude the areas occupied by foreign forces, separatist and terrorist groups from the sanctions imposed on this nation.
We repudiate such a measure to be implemented in the country’s northeastern and northern regions, occupied by the Pentagon’s military and its separatist Syrian Democratic Forces (FDS) militia, the Turkish forces and the extremist groups they sponsor, the Foreign Ministry stated in a communique.
The text described the behavior by the United States as hypocritical and considered that it violates the regulations and values of the United Nations, included respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.
This approach will only generate more chaos and violence, and would also frustrate the entire political process to resolve the crisis, the note stated.
It asserted that the best way to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and the repercussions of the crisis is only through respect for international legitimacy and the UN resolutions, the foremost of which is respect for sovereignty and the lifting of unjust coercive measures.
In June 2020, the United States unilaterally imposed new extraterritorial sanctions against Syria under the name of the Caesar Act, aimed at suffocating the Arab country.
