Paraguayan drivers mantained for the tenth day the protests against fuel prices, despite threats from the authorities to increase the control measures.
Workers in the sector, including truckers, continue with their blockades on the roads, while law enforcement agents apply force to clear them, the Minister of the Interior, Federico González, declared according to ABC Cardinal.
González assured that the Executive talks with the drivers to rehabilitate the transfer of goods and passengers, while applying force to clear the roads, blocked at the beginning of the protest on March 14.
The Minsiter recognized the difficulty of clearing the roads because “it is difficult to remove 100 trucks at a time”, given the large number of streets, avenues and highways obstructed by these vehicles in the entire country.
According to the authority, the number of road closures due to truckers´ protests decreased from 78 to 30 during the last week, but he pointed out that these figures fluctuate constantly.
Drivers began the demosntartions few hours after the government´s decision in late February to rise fuel prices, for the second time in 2022 and for the sixth time in about a year.
