Farmers demand that rice prices be respected and warn that the credits promised by the Ecuadorian government have not arrived.
Hundreds of rice farmers from different cantons of Guayas, Manabí, Los Ríos and Loja gathered at the Limonal Coliseum, in Daule, to coordinate different actions around the economic crisis they face due to the high cost of agricultural inputs and the low price to which the rice is sold.
In this meeting, they announced that on Wednesday March 23 at 06:00 a peaceful march will begin at the entrance of the San Pedro Espinal bridge, on the Santa Lucía-Daule road.
Farmers ask for more support from the National Government, since rice prices are not respected, and President Lasso’s campaign promise to sell a sack of rice for at least USD 35 is not fulfilled.
In the same way, they request that the fertilizers be sold at low cost, that BanEcuador credits reach the real farmers and that the storage unit (UNA) be opened and strengthened.
The rice farmers also appointed Alexandra Plúas Chiriguaya, Jorge Suárez, Franklin Mosquera and Luis Pílalo as their spokespersons, so that in the coming days they request a rapprochement with the Government.
