Numerous French groups of road hauliers hardened their actions of protest against the increase of fuels, blocking some points of the road network, especially in the west of the country.
According to local media, groups of truckers blocked from 5 a.m. the A84 freeways at Guiberville, between Rennes and Caen, the A87 near Angers, as well as the A11 and the D525 road, and in several places farmers and fishermen joined the actions of the hauliers.
The French government announced on Friday the payment of 400 million euros in immediate aid to the road transport sector to compensate for rising fuel prices, which was welcomed by the National Road Transport Federation (FNTR, in Spanish) and the Union of Transport and Logistics Companies of France.
However, the measure was rejected by the entrepreneurs of small and medium-sized companies in the sector, who a day later called a day of action for today, Monday, in the face of an “agreement that is completely unacceptable in our eyes,” according to one of those affected.
The protests highlight what for many professionals is insufficient economic aid.
During the last few days, hauliers have held rallies in several cities in western France, and since last Tuesday they have been occupying the area around the Brest oil depot, threatening to block it if they do not receive new aid for diesel fuel.
