Yesterday there was a flood in the La Gasca sector, in the north center of Quito. The heavy rains also caused the fall of power poles and several houses were affected. So far, twenty-four people have been confirmed dead, three houses destroyed and three families affected by the flood.
In the same way, it was confirmed that the number of injured increased to 48 critically injured are 2 and, at the moment, 12 people are missing, 348 people affected, 3 houses with total damage, 15 vehicles and 22 affected.
Around 8:00 p.m., the ECU 911 and the National Risk and Emergency Management Service of Ecuador (SNGRE) confirmed that three people died in the landslide.
“In the Belisario Quevedo parish, in Quito, Pichincha province, a flood was recorded due to heavy rains, which caused a second-order road in La Gasca to fill with mud and cause serious damage.”
Rescuers and paramedics from the Quito Fire Department, and technicians from the Secretary of Security, at the time of publication of this note, are in the La Gasca sector, attending to the emergency.
Quito’s ECU 911, for its part, reported that its units also reached the sector to assess the scene and establish the perimeter, after the heavy rains recorded today.
The prefect of Pichincha, Paola Pabón, offered the help of the institution she leads, in view of the emergency due to heavy rains. “We have offered our support to the municipality of Quito. We are awaiting the evaluation made by the specialized teams », she indicated.
