The epidemiological situation of COVID-19 in Ecuador is normalizing, after three weeks of sustained increase in cases. Currently, the contagion curve is stabilized with a downward trend.
This was revealed by the Vice Minister of Health, José Ruales, on February 2, 2022. At a press conference, the official explained that the cases have decreased in relation to the last three weeks of January, going from 49,115 confirmed cases to 1,519 positives by week.
Likewise, he explained that there is a lower demand for hospital beds, after two weeks in which waiting lists were registered again. At the same time, the demand for Covid-19 tests and outpatient consultations for the virus has decreased.
Regarding the epidemiological traffic light, the authorities reported that there are still 21 cantons that are at a high epidemiological level (red); 166 at medium risk (yellow); and 34 cantons at low epidemiological risk (green).
In this way, the National COE modified the percentage of capacity for closed and open establishments and places, subject to the color of the epidemiological traffic light of each canton:
