Some Ecuadorians have managed to flee the war in Ukraine. Others, without support of any kind, have had to risk their lives to reach the border. Camilo Lascano and 19 other Ecuadorians hope to cross the border with Poland this Saturday, February 27, 2022.
“At the moment, our group is fine. We have coordinated everything. The means by which to get there, what to do and where to go”, says Lascano.
From a small town they had to walk to the border with Poland. “They told us to wait for a means of transportation,” he said.
“Here with the group of Ecuadorians we stick together,” said Lascano, hoping to be able to cross the border this Saturday. Although several friends, who managed to cross, warned them that it would take a long time due to the number of people wanting to leave this way.
While the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry insists on the assistance provided to compatriots, there are more and more voices that lament the abandonment of their authorities in this situation.
“We are just a short distance from crossing the border. We will try to cross quickly,” says Lascano, as he continues his journey to flee the war.
