Ecuador would start the application of the fourth dose of the COVID vaccine in May

The Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health (MSP) would be planning the application of a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine for May. In addition, an inoculation schedule is being prepared every five months.

The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, held a meeting with the White House medical adviser, Anthony Fauc, and, in this meeting, she addressed the issue and explained that one of the Government’s objectives would be to schedule booster doses.

“We are planning to give the fourth dose, if necessary, but possibly it will be,” Garzón said.

In addition, she announced that people vaccinated in December would receive the vaccine again in May of this year, for which it is estimated that a booster dose will be applied every five months.

“As on previous occasions, the first group would be those from the first line of care and older adults,” she stressed.

In the same way, she stated that the Ministry of Health will continue with epidemiological monitoring to confirm whether or not a new inoculation is necessary.

In addition, she revealed that the MSP, the National Institute for Public Health Research (Inspi) and an American university will carry out a prevalence study to determine the percentage of immunity at the community level and follow up.
