President Guillermo Lasso assured that the problem of insecurity in Ecuador does not go through the Minister of Government, Alexandra Vela, nor is it resolved with a political trial against her.
Lasso asked that this issue not be politicized; since, this concerns the whole society and not only the officials who are in charge of the country’s security.
“We cannot politicize this problem, it is not a question that the Governor does not work or that the Minister of Government should be prosecuted. This is a problem for all Ecuadorians and for society as a whole. This is not going to be solved by one person, it is a much more serious problem.”
Furthermore, he insisted that a political trial against Alexandra Vela would not help improve this problem.
“The problem is not the Minister of Government, I see that in the Assembly they agree to a political trial against her, but that is not going to solve the problem because the problem is these drug gangs that we have to defeat to regain tranquility.”
On the other hand, the President explained that the support that the United States will provide to Ecuador will not only be economic, but that there will be logistical and intelligence support to combat drug trafficking.
“For now, there is control in the prisons, there are no longer any riots due to the joint action of the National Police and the Armed Forces and now they are taking their fights to the streets.”
