Mexico reports few Omicron cases

(Prensa Latina) Mexico started this week with few Covid-19 Omicron cases, Deputy Secretary of Prevention Hugo Lopez-Gatell reported on Tuesday.

This official spoke about the current state of the fourth wave of the pandemic at President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s morning press conference at the National Palace, which was about health care as on every Tuesday.

He said this is good news because the number of cases has dropped by 31 percent, which is consistent with other signs such as a decline in hospitalizations, the increase in the number of workers at workplaces and a lower positivity to the coronavirus, which means the peak of the fourth wave and the beginning of the decline phase.

He added that this trend in the epidemiological curve is expected to continue next week, and from now on, the periods of the disease will be shorter.

He reiterated that this is a very positive sign. The same applies to hospitalizations, which have significantly dropped, so there will be more medical discharges this week.

He said that the reopening of schools did not cause a faster spread of Covid-19, and as early as mid-January, just a few schools closed their doors, but just for a few days.
