In Ecuador, the capacity in public institutions will be reduced to 50% due to the coronavirus

The increase in coronavirus cases nationwide has forced the authorities to make new resolutions. One of these is the reduction of capacity to 50% in all public institutions of the Executive function.

At a press conference of the National COE, the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, explained that there is a weekly increase of 9,676 cases of Covid-19, especially in Guayas, Pichincha, Manabí, Pastaza and Tungurahua.

Likewise, the viral positivity rate is 20%; while the excess mortality from the virus, in relation to November 2021, has risen from 9.2% to 13.8%.

Faced with the epidemiological situation, the Minister of Labor, Patricio Donoso, and the President of the COE, Juan Zapara, announced that, starting this Tuesday, January 4, 2022, the capacity in all public service institutions will be 50%.

Likewise, the authorities recommended that private companies take advantage of this warrant and also implement the measure of teleworking, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in these spaces.

On the other hand, Garzón acknowledged that vaccination coverage is not broad enough to prevent more infections and deaths from the pandemic.

She explained that the current immunization coverage is 85.41% of the vaccinable population from 5 years old; while 79% are already with the two doses.

Among other recommendations made by the authorities is to reinforce biosecurity measures, emphasizing social distancing, hand washing, the use of masks and keeping the areas ventilated.

To companies, that prioritize teleworking for people with aggravating illnesses; as well as the double day for those institutions that cannot benefit from this teleworking modality.

The agency suggested self-isolation to people who present symptoms of contagion and that from the fourth of having presented these signs, antigen and PCR tests are carried out.
