In Ecuador, the group with the lowest vaccination rate is occupied by children and adolescents from 5 to 17 years old

The Government analyzes the possible vaccination of children over 3 years of age, for the coming months.

The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, revealed that the age range that has least received the vaccine in Ecuador is from 5 to 17 years and that could complicate the health situation that the country is going through, since, throughout the world, it was reported a rebound in hospitalizations for children and adolescents.

According to figures from the Vacunometer, 7 out of 10 children, between 5 and 12 years old, have already received the first dose of the vaccine and only 5 out of 10, the second dose. Similarly, 85.7% of adolescents between 12 and 17 years old were already inoculated with the first dose and 69.61% with the second dose.

On the other hand, Garzón said that 1.4 million Ecuadorians have already received the booster dose. In addition, 13.7 million have already received the first dose and 12.7 million the second.

On the other hand, he explained that it is a technical decision to apply the vaccine at 5 months, for people over 50 years of age, because it is the age group that has the most health complications and in which the highest mortality is reported.
