In Ecuador at least 32 families have been evacuated after overflowing rivers in Cotopaxi

The overflow of rivers and the torrential rains have caused damage in Pujilí, La Maná, Pangua and Sigchos, in Cotopaxi, leaving affected families, damaged structures, flooded houses and lost crops.

The Government of Cotopaxi reported that, due to this phenomenon, a family was trapped in the Pucayacu Chico sector and was evacuated by Armed Forces personnel; while 32 families were evacuated and placed in temporary shelters set up in schools and communal houses in La Maná and El Palmar.

In addition, 1,200 hectares of cassava, cocoa, banana and pasture crops were affected. Likewise, at the moment the Latacunga – La Maná road is completely closed and there is damage to the alternate roads.

The electrical service in several sectors has been suspended and approximately 200 people are affected. So far, the authorities have not recorded human losses.

Faced with the disaster, the governor of Cotopaxi, Oswaldo Coronel, requested that an emergency be declared in the Pujilí, La Maná Pangua and Sigchos cantons and the transfer of technical teams to affected areas. Likewise, he ordered the gathering of information by the National Risk Management System.
