Haitians favor dialogue to solve crisis

(Prensa Latina) The leader of the National Union for Integrity and Reconciliation (UNIR), Clarens Renois, called for dialogue among Haitians as a solution to the deep crisis in the country.

Renois urged all sectors to prevent Haiti from sinking into political chaos as February 7 approaches, the date when civil society and a broad group of parties will try to establish a transitional government, despite Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s refusal.

The former presidential candidate assured that only dialogue will lead to a real solution, and expressed his willingness to participate in any initiative in that direction.

The signatories of the Montana Agreement presented this week the list of candidates to the Presidency State and Government and the election must take place in the coming days.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister ruled out the creation of an interim government next month and stressed that there is no constitutional manner to install a president.

“February 7 does not mark the end of the mandate that has the responsibility to organize free and democratic elections. The next occupant of the National Palace will be a president freely elected by the Haitian people,” he said on Friday during an international conference of foreign ministers organized by Canadian authorities.
