At a press conference of the National COE, the authority expressed concern about the increase in infections. He revealed that in the last week in the city 6,306 confirmed cases were reported.
The mayor of Guayaquil, Cynthia Viteri, reported that the city registers an average of 900 infections and 10.7 deaths.
Viteri explained that in the health houses there are 151 beds of Intensive Care Units that have already been occupied; while 245 patients are in hospital beds.
“At the Bicentennial hospital we have had up to 1,200 people a day seeking care and testing for Covid,” she stressed.
Likewise, she anticipated that a new care wing will be set up in this health home; while from Monday, January 17, a new municipal vaccination center will open on Avenida 25 de Julio.
Faced with this situation, the mayor asked the president of the National COE, Juan Zapata, to apply national measures, regardless of whether they are “unpopular” in nature, since, she stressed, there are cantons surrounding Guayaquil that do not have the capacity of necessary care for patients, so they travel to Guayaquil in search of medical care for coronavirus and must assume the wave of infections.
Until this January 12, Guayaquil registers 67,355 confirmed cases with the virus; while in Guayas 93,600 infected people are reported.
