Ecuador plans to vaccinate children from the age of three against Covid-19, starting in February

From next February 2022, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) plans to start vaccination against Covid-19 in boys and girls from the age of three.

The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, pointed out that the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (CAPI) has analyzed the scientific evidence to start this process.

“From the month of February we will begin to vaccinate younger populations based on scientific evidence and data collected from countries such as Chile, Colombia or China,” she said.

Garzón assured that there are the necessary coronavirus vaccines to cover the entire population, both for first, second and third doses.

The health authority stressed that vaccination in the pediatric population has not generated significant side effects. “The most they have given us is arm pain and general discomfort. They are attenuated viruses », she specified.

On December 23, the MSP declared the obligation to be vaccinated against Sars-Cov-2. However, there are no penalties for those not immunized, but in several establishments of essential and non-essential activities, as well as in intra and interprovincial transport, the vaccination certificate is required.
