After the suspension of classes in the fiscal system during this week, from Monday, January 17, educational activities will resume in all establishments nationwide. From that day on, the progressive return to face-to-face classes plan will continue.
This morning at a press conference of the National COE, in Guayaquil, the Minister of Education, María Brown, explained that, as of January 10, 841 students and 1,304 teachers infected with Covid-19 have been registered.
Brown pointed out that this return to presence from Monday will be voluntary. On the other hand, she reported that 74.20% of institutions nationwide already have an approved Educational Continuity Plan.
The Secretary of State pointed out that if a student, teacher or administrative official has tested positive for Covid-19, they should not attend the educational establishment in person and must report it, maintain a seven-day isolation and follow the protocol of the Ministry of Health.
Likewise, she confirmed that on February 7, in the Sierra-Amazonía regime, the face-to-face return will begin with 100% capacity; however, she specified, this decision can be modified according to the epidemiological situation.
For her part, the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, warned of an increase of more than 20 thousand infections during this last week; that is, a new peak of infections. However, she highlighted that the number of deaths has not increased compared to the 2021 health crisis.
Meanwhile, Mayor Cynthia Viteri asked the National COE to implement measures that govern at the national level, even if these are unpopular since, she claimed, there are cantons that do not have the capacity to care for all patients with Covid-19, so In the case of Guayaquil, patients from neighboring cantons are going to the main port in search of care.
Likewise, Viteri revealed that there is an average of 10.7 deaths per day; while the rate of daily increase in confirmed infections with the virus is 900 cases.
