For the Comptroller General of the State, there are no elements that demonstrate that at the time that President Guillermo Lasso registered his candidacy, he had assets or capital in tax havens. So you have decided to archive one of the two Open Investigations on Pandora Papers.
This was resolved by the controller in charge, Carlos Riofrío, this December 3. The decision is made at the end of the special examination carried out to determine the existence of an infraction and the possible responsibility of the President, after the International Consortium of Journalists will reveal the offshore network of Lasso Mendoza, and other politicians around the world.
The Comptroller’s Office established that as of September 23, the day of the registration of his candidacy, and on May 24, when he was possessed, he was not the direct or indirect owner of goods or capital in the companies or foundations Petro Overseas SA, Banisi SA or Banisi International Foundation.
In the Comptroller’s Office there is still another investigation regarding the information provided by President Lasso about his economic assets. At the moment, the information received is under analysis. According to the controller, a resolution on the matter could be due in January.
From the National Assembly there were already the first reactions on this file, which could affect the vote of the Legislative Plenary, precisely, the report that the Constitutional Guarantees Commission prepared on the Pandora Papers, in which it does conclude a responsibility of the President.
Paola Cabezas, from the Union for Hope (UNES), expressed her concern and hopes that she does not affect what will be resolved this afternoon.
Other legislators have indicated that they support the file in the absence of evidence.
