Capitalization of the IDB is key to recover the region, indicates president of Ecuador

President Guillermo Lasso, through his Twitter account, reported on the capitalization of the IDB, as a key element for the recovery of the region. Above all, he said, after the serious effects that COVID-19 has left. “Ecuador supports this historic bipartisan effort in the United States,” he wrote on the social network.

In addition, he attached a letter reporting that in Latin America and the Caribbean, nearly 60 million people fell from the middle class to poverty. “In this context, we write this letter in support of a capital increase from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) because we recognize in this institution a strategic partner to achieve a sustainable recovery,” the letter says.

In the letter, it is added that the countries of the continent must work together to ensure an economic and inclusive recovery. “The IDB has been a leader in the region in responding quickly to our needs during the COVID-19 emergency through nearly $ 21 billion in financing in 2020.”

The letter ends by stating that the institution has helped to strengthen the health area. In addition, to finance projects that promote employment and investment in the region. Therefore, they believe that providing loans to the public sector and improving private sector investment will be essential for an economic recovery.
