President of Ecuador says he will not appear before the Assembly for the Pandora Papers

“I will send a letter to the National Assembly and tell it: here is the report from the Comptroller’s Office,” he assured.

The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, asserted that he will not appear before the National Assembly to explain his alleged connection with the Pandora Papers, after the warrant he received from the Legislative Plenary on December 7.

The Assembly asked the President to come and clarify the doubts that exist around his assets and his alleged assets that he maintains in countries considered tax havens, which are used for tax evasion.

Given this, Lasso confirmed that he will not attend the Assembly and that all he will do is send a letter, along with the Comptroller’s report that filed one of the investigations against him.

“I will send a letter to the National Assembly and tell it: here is the report from the Comptroller’s Office, what else do you want me to say. I believe that the Comptroller’s report is conclusive and absolutely clear, therefore, it is not necessary for me to attend the Assembly ”.

It should be remembered that the Plenary of the Assembly did not approve the report of the Pandora Papers case, prepared by the Constitutional Guarantees Commission, in which it was concluded that there were links between the President and offshore companies and assets in tax havens.
