(Prensa Latina) Between January 1 and December 21, this year, 107 femicides took place in Bolivia, according to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes against Life and Personal Integrity.
The Attorney General of the State, Juan Lanchipa, described this situation as worrying and warned that the figures may increase before year’s end.
He called attention on the high incidence reported in the department of La Paz, with 43 women murdered, of which more than half occurred in the city of El Alto.
In the departments of Santa Cruz 16 such acts were committed, 15 in Cochabamba, 10 in Potosí, another 10 in Oruro, in Chuquisaca six, in Beni three, also three in Tarija and one in Pando, Ahora el Pueblo newspaper reported.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, 113 crimes against women were committed in the country in 2020; 117 in 2019; 128 in 2018; 109 in 2017, and 111 in 2016.
The Government declared the 2022 as the Year of the Cultural Revolution for Depatriarchalization, with the aim of eradicating gender violence, so it will work on three lines of action, from the structural, legal and institutional.
