Turkey approves national anti-Covid-19 vaccine Turkovac

(Prensa Latina) Turkey’s health authorities approved the domestically produced vaccine Turkovac for use against Covid-19, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today.

We are happy that our drug will be mass-produced, said the president at a ceremony broadcast live on public broadcaster TRT.

The vaccine joins China’s Sinovac and Pfizer-BioNTech, from the United States and Germany, as part of the immunization package approved in this nation.

From now on we are one of the nine countries producing a drug against Covid-19, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said, according to the Anadolu news agency.

Mass production has begun and from next week Turkovac will be applied on a mass scale, he added.

About 60 percent of the 83 million inhabitants of this Eurasian country have already completed the immunization cycle, according to Ministry data.

As Turkey’s epidemiological situation remains stable, authorities do not foresee further restrictions despite the detection of cases of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 days ago.
