Panama, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) The Panamanian health authorities are accelerating from this Tuesday the anti-Covid-19 vaccination, after a national holiday and in view of the uncertainty about the spread of the new omicrom strain, detected in South Africa.
According to the Health Ministry, there have been 2,427,941 second doses of immunogens applied until now and, according to the latest epidemiological report, there are 477,608 confirmed cases so far in the pandemic.
During the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of Panama’s independence from Spain, this weekend, President Laurentino Cortizo himself warned about the possibility of returning to restrictive measures if businessmen do not comply with the commitment to ask customers of bars and discos for cards or the QR code to prove that they are fully vaccinated.
If they fail to comply with this commitment, he warned, “they can put me in a completely difficult situation of having to close within a month or a month and a half”.
The warning of the Panamanian authorities comes in view of the increase in the rate of infection of the disease in some parts of the country and the global threat posed by the new Omicrom variant, detected in South Africa.
The proposed countries are South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
In the last 24 hours, Panama registered 94 new positive cases of Covid-19, for a total of 477,608.
