Former guerrilla leader calls for peace and talks in Colombia

Bogota, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) The commander of the “Second Marquetalia”, Ivan Marquez, asked for full peace in Colombia and for the next government to hold talks with all armed actors.

“We want a government that plays everything for complete peace, that resumes the talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN), that opens a chapter of talks with all the insurgencies and that also talks with the successor organizations of paramilitarism,” said Marquez in an interview with NotiCentro 1 CM& published Tuesday on its website.

Marquez, who was one of the main leaders of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP), and took up arms again in August 2019 , told CM& that he expects the next executive to activate a social shock plan against poverty, covering measures to overcome child malnutrition, illiteracy, unemployment and give back to the people the right to health.

The former leader and one of the peace negotiators of the former FARC-EP, said that the new government resulting from the 2022 elections “should think about a basic income to compensate unpaid work at home, to help the homeless elderly, the disabled and the unemployed, fulfill the commitments with the social movement, with the students who are on the streets asking for free and quality education.
