Assemblyman of Ecuador will be prosecuted for misogyny

The Administrative Council of the Legislature (CAL) qualified the complaint of Assemblywoman Mónica Palacios Zambrano, against legislator Diego Ordóñez. The act was due to verbal aggression and obvious misogyny.

On November 4, when sharing a tweet from the 4 Pelagatos portal, referring to Mónica Palacios, Ordóñez posted: “Go from the tube to the seat and these clumsy tricks arise.” This insult was quickly answered by several users of the Twitter social network, showing solidarity with the affected assembly member.

Thus, Palacios presented the complaint to the CAL for committing a serious offense, typified in paragraph 1 of article 170 of the Organic Law of the Legislative Function, related to verbal aggression to a legislator inside or outside the parliamentary precinct.

The complaint indicates that the victim suffered damage due to the threat originated in Ordóñez’s misogynistic and sexist behavior. And that this fact affected the peaceful coexistence of the assembly members and those who attend the National Assembly.

The request asks that Ordóñez be sanctioned, that he offer a public apology and that he be ordered not to repeat these unfortunate acts of gender violence.
