Growing rejection to expansion of Israeli settlements in West Bank

Ramallah, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Israel on Friday faces harsh criticism from the international community after announcing the construction of 3,144 new housing units for Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.

In a joint communique, France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden urged Tel Aviv to suspend those works.

We reiterate ‘our strong opposition to the settlement expansion policy in the occupied Palestinian territories, which violates international law and undermines efforts for the two-state solution,’ a joint communique from those countries stated.

According to the Israeli non-governmental organization Peace Now, founded by former soldiers, more than 665,000 Israeli settlers have been living in 145 settlements built in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and 140 other outposts for future settlements.
