The president of Mexico, Manuel Andrés López Obrador, said he will auction 72 airplanes and helicopters that were used by former senior officials even to play golf.
The president said that the “luxury that has nothing to do with the reality of poverty” that exists in Mexico, and therefore, made that decision.
These officials “felt like kings” and that “they were like a Creole monarchy” that lived “full of luxuries and privileges” for that reason “he decided to sell them,” said López Obrador.
The president pointed out that only the army, navy, and all those planes that serve to provide security, civil protection and first aid will remain.
