Port-au-Prince, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Haiti resumed the school year in the departments not affected by the recent earthquake amid the challenges posed by the political and health crisis, Prime Minister Ariel Henry acknowledged on Tuesday.
After the earthquake that killed over 2,200 people, authorities postponed the resumption of classes in seven departments on September 21, while the remaining three territories will begin on October 4.
Henry admitted that the sociopolitical and economic situation is very difficult, after the assassination in July of President Jovenel Moise, and while the southern departments are trying to recover from the 7.2 earthquake that left over 2,200 deaths in that region.
Moreover, the persistence of the Covid-19 pandemic, almost two years after its detection in the country in March 2020 is another challenge for the administration. The PM encouraged mass vaccination to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Despite the adverse context, all children have the right to education, and the Government must aim for the child population to attend schools, he assured.
