Syrian Army enters two southern towns

Damascus, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Syrian Army units completed on tuesday their deployment in the towns of Tafas and Tal Shehab, in the province of Deraa, located about 100 kilometers south of this capital.

Hundreds of soldiers set up several posts in Tafas, and began demining and combing operations to fully ensure the restoration of services there, national television broadcast.

Reliable sources quoted by al-Watan newspaper revealed that at least 1,000 armed men and fugitives were pardoned after voluntarily surrendering to the authorities and laying down their weapons of automatic rifles, mortars, machine guns, RPG shells and ammunition of different types and caliber.

On the other hand, the national flag was raised over the police station of that locality to consolidate stability and facilitate the civilian procedures, said Captain Ali Yussef, head of the referred unit.

Meanwhile, dozens of extremists began surrendering their weapons in Tal Shehab village, in the far west of Deraa, where the army began its deployment.

Five towns in Deraa were so far declared free of terrorism thanks to the implementation of a Russian-mediated reconciliation agreement, which stipulates normalizing the status of armed men who lay down their weapons, the departure of terrorists to northern Syria and the establishment of the state authority.
