Ecuador buys $3.6m non-lethal weapons for Army Forces

Ecuador’s Ministry of Defense announced a purchase of $3.6 millon non – lethal weapons and riot gear for the Army Forces, ahead of new strikes called by various social groups.

Ecuador’s Minister of Defense, Oswaldo Jarrin, told the press they have bought gear from United States, France and Israel. These weapons will be used for “public order” operations and “homeland security”.

This purchase has three contracts signed between U.S companies and Ministry: 179,070 in pellet- type and tear gas canisters for 2.9 millon.

A purchase of 179,070 pellet-type, tear gas canisters (GS) and projectiles for USD 2.9 million.

The second contract is the purchase of 1,000 shotguns (12-caliber) for non-lethal projectiles, for February 5.

On 20 January, they will receive 1,200 gas masks of four filters for USD 234,000
