The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, announced that, according to the scientific evidence on the advance of Covid-19, the application of a third dose against this virus is recommended, therefore, in Ecuador, this recommendation would be accepted and a booster dose would be inoculated, from January 2022.
“We will go to the next phase to vaccinate those under 12 years of age. There are scientific theories that recommend a third dose, it is very likely that we will accept it and that, from January of next year, we will begin to apply the third dose ».
Lasso explained that the primary objective of the Government is to advance with the applications of the first and second doses in the country, for this, a new objective was set, to fully immunize 80% of the population until the end of the year.
In the same way, he recognized that Ecuador could have its own laboratory to manufacture vaccines, for this, conversations have begun with China and Russia, in order to rehabilitate the Izquieta Pérez Scientific Center and produce the doses there.
