United Nations, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) About 70% of jobs created in Latin America following the Covid-19 pandemic are in informal conditions, a study by the International Labor Organization (ILO) reported.
According to ILO, reactivating Latin American and Caribbean economies is still insufficient to recover the jobs lost during the Covid-19 pandemic, thus promotes a labor market with a high unemployment rate and a strong predominance of informal jobs.
ILO´s Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Vinícius Pinheiro pointed out that neither quantity nor quality of jobs required by the region are being generated to face the aftermaths of an unprecedented crisis.
Job panorama is too complicated and poses big challenges, he said.
Mr. Pinheiro stressed that in 2021 informal jobs are leading partial recovery of employment, and recalled these are unstable jobs, with low wages, without social protection or rights.
The actions taken to challenge the health crisis had an impact on informal occupations and loss of revenues.
