The Government of Ecuador, through the Ministry of Energy, awarded the concession of the Conolophus Renewable Energy Microgrid Project, in Galapagos, to the private company, Asociación Gran Solar Total Eren.
This was reported by the State portfolio, this August 29, 2021, through a statement in which it details that the project will be executed with an investment of USD 63 million, with private capital, for the installation of 14.8 MW of photovoltaic generation with 40.9 MWh batteries in the Santa Cruz and Baltra islands.
This concession to the private company will have a duration of 25 years, from the signing of the contract, after the Executive structured the Public Selection Process for this energy project.
According to Energía, the decision was made based on the analysis of the technical and economic offers presented to the Technical Commission, within the framework of the Public Selection Process developed.
Likewise, the State portfolio explained that the “Conolophus” project is part of the “Zero Fossil Fuels in Galapagos” initiative, which seeks to reduce the use of petroleum derivatives in electricity generation for this area of high environmental and social sensitivity in the country .
According to the statement, it is estimated that with the start-up of the project the emission of approximately 16,400 tons of CO2 per year into the environment would be avoided.
