Around 120,000 students, belonging to 1,650 schools and secondary education institutions, will return to face-to-face and blended classes, next Wednesday, September 1. Educational establishments must follow the protocol of the Ministry of Education.
The measure raised different criticisms because children under 12 have not received the Covid-19 vaccine, in addition to the presence of the Delta variant in the country.
César Bonifaz assured that his son will not go to class until he is immunized. Martín, César’s son, mentioned that he agrees, but acknowledges that he would like to return to the classroom.
Only students belonging to institutions that have the approved Institutional Continuity Plan (PICE) can return to classes. Educational establishments must meet the following requirements, established by the National Emergency Operations Committee (COE) and controlled by the Ministry of Education:
Limited capacity inside the classrooms
Have basic services in good condition
Use of disinfection and biosafety devices
Prevention signage in all spaces
Temporary social isolation space (for members with symptoms of respiratory infection)
Spaces must be adapted to comply with social distancing
Perform continuous cleaning procedures
In addition, the College of Physicians of Pichincha assured that the priority is to preserve the care to avoid contagion. The union affirmed that the challenge will be to maintain a precise epidemiological control in the event of any alert. For example, if there are symptoms, the obligation is to report immediately.
