Ecuador joined, together with more than 70 countries, a joint declaration in which all parties involved in the Afghan conflict are asked “given the deterioration of the security situation, to respect and facilitate the safe and orderly departure of citizens foreigners and Afghans who wish to leave the country ”.
Afghans and foreign nationals who wish to leave, the document says, must be able to do so; roads, airports and border crossings must remain open and calm must be maintained.
They emphasize that “those in positions of power and authority throughout Afghanistan have a responsibility to protect human life and property, and to ensure the immediate restoration of security and civil order; being —in addition— subject to accountability ”.
This document also indicates that the Afghan people “deserve to live in safety, protection and dignity. We in the international community are ready to help them.
The “Joint Declaration on Afghanistan” was initially joined by Albania, Germany, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Burkina Faso, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ivory Coast, Republic of Korea, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark , Ecuador, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Estonia, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Federation of Micronesia States, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti , Honduras, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, Latvia, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Montenegro, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Niger, North Macedonia, Norway, Palau, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Sierra Leone, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Togo, Tonga, Uganda, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Yemen.
Afghanistan is already under full control of the Taliban group. In an offensive that has neutralized the state powers of the Ashraf Ghani government in a matter of weeks, this Islamist group has regained power and ensures that there is peace.
The Taliban command declared the end of the war in Afghanistan on Monday, after its fighters entered Kabul and President Ashraf Ghani left this country.
Taliban political bureau spokesman Mohammad Naeem told Al Jazeera that the type and form of a new government will soon be decided.
