Ecuador receives 101,760 doses of AstraZeneca donated by the Government of Spain, through the COVAX mechanism, led by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
The donation had been announced by the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, at an Ibero-American summit, in which he promised to deliver 7.5 million vaccines to Latin American and Caribbean countries, which will be distributed through the COVAX mechanism.
The first recipient countries are Paraguay, which will receive 252,000 doses; Guatemala, 201,600; Ecuador and Peru, 101,760 respectively; and Nicaragua: 97,920.
Vice President Alfredo Borrero and the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, participated in the reception of the vaccines. The vaccines are added to the 9/100 inoculation Plan carried out by the National Government.
The batch that arrived at the Mariscal Sucre airport in Quito will go to the National Vaccine Bank, to be distributed to the nine areas of the country and, from there, to more than 570 Vaccination Centers.
As of August 14, 14.6 million people have received the COVID-19 vaccine: 9.9 million have the first dose and 4.7 million have the full inoculation schedule. At the moment, a second dose vaccination schedule is being fulfilled for people
