After it became known of the leak of the private data of more than 1.5 million people, housed in the database of the Ministry of Health, the head of this State portfolio, Ximena Garzón, announced that it is being sanctioned those responsible and a report will be sent to the State Attorney General’s Office.
In statements to the press this Tuesday, July 27, Garzón explained that a detailed report is being prepared with the possible causes that originated this leak and to determine why this information was being handled in a database in free software.
Around 08:30 on Sunday, July 25, personal information such as names and surnames, identification number, telephone number, professional occupation, ethnic self-identification, date of birth, parish of residence, medical history number and medical diagnosis of more than 1, 5 million people, who have been tested for COVID-19 in the country, were published on a web platform with statistics of the pandemic.
The information was available for several hours before being removed that same day.
Given the inconvenience, the Minister of Health announced that administrative measures have been applied, as well as sanctions to the people involved in this case.
She added that this report will be sent in the next few hours to the State Attorney General’s Office, for the respective investigation.
“We are putting the case in the hands of the Prosecutor’s Office, so that the pertinent investigations are carried out, to determine if it was an error due to negligence in the handling of confidential data or if there was another problem that was not due to an involuntary failure,” she argued. .
Regarding the fact, the Secretary of State reported that a person infiltrated the account of the official who was handling the Health data and extracted the private information of all these people, which remained public for several hours.
