Ecuador’s Ministry of Health published personal data of more than 1.5 million

The Ministry of Health published a new platform for updating the epidemiological situation in the country. In it, the database it uses can be downloaded, but its information is not anonymous and it contains names, identification cards and data from medical records.

The data of more than 1.5 million people in Ecuador were available and downloadable yesterday, July 26, 2021.

Since Saturday, July 24, the Ministry made a platform available to citizens. “This action is part of the transparency policy led by the Government of the Encounter,” said the statement sent that day, in which the link to the website was attached.

On Saturday afternoon it was already possible to consult this information, where statistical tables were housed, the number of infected, deceased, the occupation of hospital beds, among other data that appeared in the reports issued by this State Portfolio.

The alert was issued by statesman Carlos Oporto, who closely monitors the information about COVID-19 in Ecuador. In his social networks he published some lists that anyone could download in the two days that the platform was enabled.

Diario El Universo also downloaded the material and reports that “The database has 1,720,966 rows and 170 columns. THE UNIVERSE was able to identify that it contains 1,549,780 names and surnames, 1,525,320 ID numbers and 1,149,208 telephone numbers, most of them cell phones.

The file includes information on tens of thousands of children and adolescents: 7,614 are under 1 year of age; 16,120 are between 1 and 4 years old; 23,461, between 5 and 9 years old; 37,071, between 10 and 14 years old; and 74,701, between 15 and 19 years old ”.

The Ministry of Health has not yet issued any statement in this regard, but this Monday, July 26, 2021, the platform can no longer be accessed.
