President Guillermo Lasso will travel to Lima on Tuesday to participate in the investiture ceremony of the leftist Pedro Castillo as president of Peru,
Castillo will assume power on Wednesday, after his victory over the right-wing Keiko Fujimori, during the second round of elections held on June 6.
The Communication Secretariat of the Presidency reported that Lasso’s trip is scheduled for before noon on Tuesday, July 27, from the Simón Bolívar airport in Guayaquil.
The Ecuadorian head of state also plans to hold bilateral meetings with various leaders who will participate in the acts of possession of Castillo, such as the Chilean Sebastián Piñeira.
Lasso’s agenda would include meetings with new president Castillo, as well as outgoing Francisco Sagasti.
King Felipe VI of Spain, the Vice President of Brazil, Hamilton Mourao; and the Uruguayan Foreign Minister, Francisco Bustillo, among others, have confirmed their attendance at Castillo’s investiture.
