The Emergency Operations Committee (COE) issued new resolutions, after receiving the report from the Ministry of Health on the delta variant of COVID-19.
Juan Zapata, president of the organization, detailed the preventive actions taken to reduce the spread of the virus. Measures include capacity reduction.
President Guillermo Lasso issued the decree that establishes a state of exception in Guayaquil and El Oro, in which he maintains the restrictions in force since July 14.
The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, clarified that the transmission of the delta variant is community only in El Oro, while the outbreaks in the other provinces are specific cases with the corresponding epidemiological boundaries.
The COE also urged the cantons with the presence of the variant to declare themselves in permanent session to take measures in a timely manner. Among the suggestions, there is the reduction of capacity to 50% in closed places and 75% in open places, as well as reducing capacity to 50% in public transport.
He also asked the cantonal COE of the coastal zone to control the beaches, their capacity, the attention and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
The Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, mentioned that they continue to work for the reactivation of the sector and, for this, they seek to vaccinate 100% of tourism workers in the country. He mentioned that a large number have already received their dose against COVID-19.
