At least 105 femicides were registered throughout the country from January 1 to June 30, 2021, according to figures collected by feminist and human rights organizations that are part of the Alliance for Monitoring and Mapping of the femicides in Ecuador.
The report also observes that during this year, on average every 41 hours a woman is violently murdered because of her status as a woman.
Of the number of registered femicides, in just six months, 68 are femicides; 33 are for organized crime and 4 correspond to transfeminicides.
The province that registers the most cases is Guayas with 40 femicides; Manabí follows with 12; Pichincha presents 11 cases; the province of Los Ríos registers 8 femicides; while Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Chimborazo register four cases in each province.
The most frequent ages of the victims of the murders is 25 and 34 years; while the youngest woman who was murdered in this period was one year old and the oldest 73
The data indicates that in 63% of the cases, the femicide had a sentimental relationship or was from the victim’s family circle.
Due to the 105 femicides registered so far in 2021, at least 103 sons and daughters have been orphaned.
According to the figures and statistics collected by the organizations, from January 1, 2014, until June 30, 2021, 921 femicides were registered throughout the national territory.
Faced with these alarming figures, social organizations, women, victims of all kinds and more civil society demand memory, justice and reparation.
