Dozens of teachers began a vigil outside the Government Platform in the South of Quito to denounce that the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) owes them 7 months of salary. In the same way, they assured that they are not even affiliated with Social Security, despite the fact that they carry out their work from Monday to Friday and for more than 8 hours.
The educators have to pay for basic services at home and hire an internet service to be able to carry out their work electronically, but due to the lack of payment, they warned that they will not be able to continue developing their work.
Claudia Donoso, one of the affected kindergartens, indicated that with her own resources she had to adapt a space in her home and hire an internet service to continue with her work.
“We don’t have to pay for the internet. We are unpaid for electricity and we still have to do our job. We are in the seventh month unpaid salary ”.
Similarly, she denounced that the MIES did not hire them under a dependency relationship and they do not have Social Security, despite working from Monday to Friday.
“We are not affiliated with social security either. Our contract is through invoices, despite the fact that we carry out our work 5 days a week and 8 working hours, but our contract is for the provision of services ”.
For her part, Carmen Quishpe, another affected teacher, stressed that she has given several protests and marches, but the authorities have not given any response to her complaints.
“We have had to pay for basic services and food for 7 months. They are not helping us and they are not even giving aid to the children ”.
