(Prensa Latina) The Election Qualifying Court(TRICEL) ratified all 155 members of the Constitutional Convention elected in the May 15-16 election in Chile, that institution reported on Wednesday.
The TRICEL’s ruling indicated that ‘the court has come to the certainty that the national voting to elect the constituent members of the convention is free of transcendental vices and has enough legality to be declared valid.’
According to the text, 12 electoral complaints were received, which were processed, but whose sentences were maintained in accordance with the qualified vote and incorporated in the general count.
The TRICEL now has three days to communicate the ruling to President Sebastian Piñera, who, according to the regulations, will have three other days to issue a decree convening the first session of the Constitutional Convention, which will be held in the premises of the former National Congress in Santiago.
Some 78 men and 77 women were elected to that body in the May 15-16 election, thus achieving the gender parity required for its integration.
