It represents the second significant increase in salary after the arrival of Mexican President AMLO.
Mexico’s minimum wage will increase 20 percent from January 1, 2020, rising from 102.68 pesos per day ($5.70) to 123.22 ($6.84), the government confirmed on Tuesday.
The information was offered at a public event held in the National Palace headed by the President of the Republic Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, where Secretary of Labor Luisa Maria Alcalde presented the rise.
The official indicated that the rise in the minimum wage under Lopez Obrador’s administration has brought 1.23 million Mexicans out of wage poverty this year.
The increase announcement will only be applied to minimum wages, however, it represents the second significant increase in salary after the arrival of Mexican President AMLO.
The decision to increase the minimum wage of workers in Mexico is a historical move since it is the largest in real terms in the last 44 years.
