(Prensa Latina) UN Secretary General (UNSG) Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric on Monday echoed a report by the High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet who called for pressing actions on systemic racism.
Bachelet straightaway urged UN member States to take actions to crack down on racism, Dujarric said.
In addition, UNSG´s report claimed that global mobilization to demand racial justice has forced a reckoning, which has long been delayed.
As highlighted by Bachelet, nations must take actions and responses from Government and society, through action plans with adequate resources and concrete measures, with a significant participation and representation of people of African extraction.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Office received in June 2020 – shortly after George Floyd´s death- the order to prepare an in-depth report on racism.
