The Minister of Culture, María Elena Machuca, considered that the old UNASUR building, located in the Middle of the World, does not meet the necessary conditions to house the cultural heritage assets located in the Aranjuez building.
“This building does not meet the qualifications to have a reservation there. It does not have adequate air conditioning, it does not have adequate security, so at the moment we are looking for other options, “she explained.
Machuca made these statements in an interview with Radio Quito, in which, in addition, he explained that the UNASUR building has all the cutting-edge technology and is made for international conventions, but it does not have spaces for a reservation, or for a museum.
“The building has not had maintenance in the last four years. There are water leaks and the facilities are not safe for a reserve, or for a museum, “she added.
Likewise, she considered that moving the 48,000 assets to the Middle of the World is “removing an element of experience” from each of the collections, since they are made to be investigated.
